How to Read the Learning Progress Report

What are the "assignments"?
These are the learning goals, as specified in the student's learning folder.
For example, ACC.1 is learning goal 1 for the acceleration unit.

What is the "Y" score?
This shows that the student has shown that he/she has demonstrated the skill that the learning goal addresses.
For example, if a student has a "Y" score on ACC.5, the student has successfully drawn and interpreted the velocity-time graphs for an object in accelerated motion. The student has shown this by correctly answering or solving problems on in-class assessment quizzes. If the "Y" score is in the Portfolio category, the student has correctly explained the meaning of the shape of the velocity time-graph in relationship to the problem he/she has solved in his/her notebook.

What is the "N" score?
This shows that the student has been assessed on the goal, but has not yet successfully demonstrated the goal.
What is the "**" score?
This shows that the student has not been assessed on the goal. If this is in the portfolio category, this means that the student has not submitted any work that demonstrates the goal.
How does the student get a "Y" on a goal?
In the Assessment category, the student achieves a "Y" score by successfully and accurately solving problems in our in-class assessments.
In the portfolio category, the student achieves a "Y" score by submitting a comprehensive and complete explanation of a physics solution. The quality of the physics concept explanation will determine whether the student has achieved a "Y" score on that goal.

What can the student do when he/she achieves a "N" score on a goal?
Reassess.
If the "N" is in the assessment category, the student will correct his/her mistakes and make an after-school appointment to take a re-assessment quiz and successfully demonstrate the skills being assessed.
If the "N" is in the portfolio category, the student will use the feedback to correct and otherwise revise the explanation he/she has initially submitted. Then, the student will turn in the revised explanation for re-assessment.

How long does the student have to re-assess the "N" goals? How many times can a student re-assess?
The student has until the week before the marking-period end to re-assess the goals in either of the two above-mentioned ways.
The student can re-assess as many times as he/she needs. However, if a student needs to re-assess more than three times, we need to discuss what preparation he/she is doing to learn and exercise that physics skill.
